The Felloes

The Felloes, an informal group of Liverymen, was established in 1991 to provide a focus for new and younger members of the Company. The objective of the group is to provide a forum to allow members to meet and exchange views with their colleagues and to learn more of, and participate in, the activities of the Company. The Felloes are represented on various committees of the Livery including those responsible for membership, charities and craft liaison.

The name is derived from a wheelwrighting term in that the rim of a wooden wheel is formed by a number of shaped pieces of timber called felloes. It was also thought to be an appropriate name for the group.

The Felloes are a major contributor to the charitable fund raising activities of the Livery. Events include a charity ball held every two years which, with the help of generous sponsors, raise more than £25,000 for nominated charities. The last ball took place in November 2005 and raised successfully funds for its three nominated charities - The Lord Mayor's Treloar Trust, The Orpheus Trust and the Wheelwrights' own Charitable Trust. The next charity ball will be held in February 2006 and the external charities which the Company will support in this year will be Activenture (a part of London Youth) and Thrive.

Other major Livery events are organised by the Felloes including Family Days for the liverymen of the Company, their families and friends. Whilst such events are primarily social, funds are also raised for benefit of the Wheelwrights Charitable Trust and other charities.

The Felloes have represented the Livery at various exhibitions, providing displays of the history of the Company and its modern day links with both the City of London and the craft of wheelwrighting together with details of its charitable activities.
