The Felloes

The Felloes, an informal group of Liverymen, was established in 1991 to provide a focus for new members of the Company. The objective is to provide a forum to allow members to meet and exchange views with their fellow Liverymen and to learn more of, and participate in, the activities of the Company. The Felloes are represented on various committees of the Livery including those responsible for the Charitable Trust and Craft Liaison.

The name is derived from a wheelwrighting term in that the rim of a wooden wheel is formed by a number of shaped pieces of timber called felloes and in to which the spokes are fixed - an appropriate name for the group.

The Felloes have been a major contributor to the charitable fund raising activities of the Livery. Events have included a charity ball held every two years.

Other more informal Company events are organised by the Felloes including such as Family Days and a guided tour of the City of London for the liverymen of the Company, their families and friends. Whilst such events are primarily social, funds are also raised for benefit of the Wheelwrights Charitable Trust.

The Felloes have represented the Livery at various exhibitions, providing displays of the history of the Company and its modern day links with both the City of London and the craft of wheelwrighting together with details of its charitable activities.

In September 2010 the Felloes was suspended as all fundraising activities were geared towards the Battleback Appeal leading up to the 2012 Paralympics and the 2014 Winter Paralympics.  In mid 2012 and once the Battleback Appeal has been completed a new Felloes Committee will be formed.
