Army Cadet Adoption Top Back to Top of Page

During 2007 and as a result of an initiative by the Rt. Hon The Lord Mayor, the Company decided to adopt three Royal Artillery Amy Cadet Force units from 9 London Cadet Artillery Regiment. The Units being 109, 96, and 97 Royal Regiment of Artillery Detachements of the South East London Army Cadet Force. The Units being based at Erith, Grove Park and Woolwich respectiverly. The units once again provided a splended Honour Guard at the Annual Ladies Banquet on 21 May 2009. The cadets who took part were a credit to their units the South East London Army Cadet Force but most importantly, themselves. They were personally commended by The Rt. Hon The Lord Mayor and the Master.

After the Installation Court Meeting on 10 December 2009 the Company presented The Master Wheelwrights Royal Artillery Cadet of the year award. The award is a bronze miniture of The Nery Gun, a illuminated framed copy of the citation and a purse of £100.00. This years award was the subject of fierce competition by the three detachments of RA cadets of the South East London Army Cadet Force. The winner for 2009 was Staff Sergeant, Kerry Wilde from 109 (Cadet) Detachenent RA based at Erith. Kerry was accompanied by Colonel Jeremy Wilson TD The Commandant of the SELACF and WO2 Anthony McMorran. After the presentation S/Sgt Wilde was introduced to the Chief of the General Staff, General Sir David Richards KCB CBE DSO ADC Gen and to the Master Gunner St James's Park, General Sir Timothy Granville-Chapman GBE KCB ADC Gen who both attended the Installation Dinner. S/Sgt Wilde intends joining the Regular Army, hopefully the Army Ventenry Corps.

It is hoped that in the future the Company will be in a position to provide varied oportunities for the Cadets especially in the area of gaining work experience.
